What's inside

Every finding comes from real answers by the four engines, collected in November 2026, with the sources each one cited.

  • Who AI recommends in each categoryOne in four newly funded companies was missing from every engine’s answer about its own category. Only 42% were named by all four.
  • The coverage effectA funding headline changed how AI describes a company, not whether it recommends one. Answers cited tier-1 outlets 74% of the time after a tier-1 story, and 44% without.
  • The sources AI trustsPR Newswire was cited more than any outlet, ahead of TechCrunch. Category answers were built from comparison pages and company sites, not news.
  • Where the engines disagreeOne in three companies got a split verdict. Claude named 66% of companies; ChatGPT named 53%.
  • Five moves to get namedWhat the most-recommended companies have in common, and what to do before your next announcement.

How we built it

We used each company's official API with live web search switched on, so every engine could look up current information. Questions were written the way a buyer or investor would ask them, without naming any company.
